Tomorrow, MPs will vote on a Parliamentary motion from the Government to up-rate the state pension. Therese said, "I am proud it is my Government that has reinstated the link to earnings for pensions with the extra security of a triple lock, ensuring that annual rises are the greatest of the average earnings increase, inflation or 2.5%. As a result of the triple lock commitment the Basic State Pension will increase by £5.30, the largest ever increase in cash terms, and will see pensioners entitled to a Basic State Pension worth £107.45 a week from April 2012. "Constituents will also welcome the changes to simplify the pension and the...

Therese recently met with bosses of Flagship Housing to discuss the amount of empty homes in Suffolk Coastal as well astheir response to the recent poor weather conditions. Therese said "It was a useful meeting and we had a frank discussion about the amount of properties that flagship has empty, of course they need to be careful with their financing but also we need to be ensuring that if properties are available they come back into use." "Flagship has committed to come back to me within two weeks to let me know what they are doing with the properties, particularly in Felixstowe. I am pressing for an action plan and if not we will have...

Therese suggested that bank closures in rural areas should be investigated by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) as she spoke in a Parliamentary debate today. Dr Coffey referred to the closure of HSBC in Aldeburgh in late 2010, when the only communication with the wider community was a poster in the window. She said "keeping rural branches open is key for all sectors of the community, especially for elderly residents and local businesses" "After its study of oil supplies the OFT is now looking to examine other issues affecting rural communities; access to financial services could be its next topic."

Therese has today given a cautious welcome to the outcome of the drought summit that took place yesterday. The summit which brought together key players in the water industry focused on the future likelihood of drought, measures that are already being implemented to tackle drought and to decide on the actions that may need to be taken to mitigate against its impact in the future. Therese said "I welcome the summit it is good we are ahead of the game. There are however, obvious concerns from consumers and especially farmers about any future plans to tackle drought." She added "It is key that farmers plan for their irrigation needs,...

Therese has had her say on plans to make it easier for consumers to seek out the best energy deal at an event organised by the regulator Ofgem. Under proposals from Ofgem, each energy supplier will have to offer a no frills tariff with a simple unit price and a fixed standing charge. Approximately 75 per cent of consumers are on these standard tariffs and will have the opportunity to benefit from these changes. Therese said "I welcome the simplification of tariffs, standardised price information would allow people to compare standard tariffs with other more innovative tariffs. This will help them to get the best deal for them." The...

Earlier this week, Therese Coffey had the joy of visiting Henstead Arts & Crafts centre as part of her constituency tour. Therese aid "It was a great afternoon, the centre has a fantastic variety of shops and is so much more than your usual shopping experience. I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Sally Rivett from Your Coasters – who puts on workshops for children as an integral part of her business Paint and Create". "The businesses told me that the signs on the verge outside advertising the centre had recently been removed. Obviously we don't want the highway unnecessarily cluttered but it is important that businesses...

Speaking in Westminster Hall, Therese outlined how she was impressed at the amount of small rural schools that are able to survive in Suffolk and praised the County Council for trying to keep as many schools open as possible. She said that it was important to support schools with low roll numbers and one way schools have been able to remain viable is by sharing head teachers, which Peasenhall and Middleton schools have done so well.
